Peoria’s emergency home repair program covers roofing: who qualifies

The City of Peoria funds an emergency home repair program with federal Community Development Block Grant money, and roofing problems are on its list of urgent repairs. Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona is one of the nonprofit partners that does the work. The 211 Arizona listing for the city’s Community Assistance Division, last confirmed April 1, 2026, describes emergency repairs for low- and moderate-income homeowners, including roofing.

After a week of storm warnings, some Peoria homeowners on a tight budget may be looking at a leak they cannot afford to fix. This program is worth knowing about before you sign any contract, including one with us.

Who can apply

Habitat lists these requirements:

  • The home must be inside Peoria city limits. Check this, not only your mailing address.
  • You must own the home and live in it.
  • All household members must be US citizens or permanent residents.
  • Total household income must meet the program’s income guidelines.

The program is for urgent problems. Besides roofing, it covers heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical, structural and accessibility issues. It does not cover appliances or pools. We could not confirm current income limits or dollar caps from a source we could open, so ask when you call.

How to reach them

  • Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona: 623-340-6567. The application is a PDF on its emergency repair page.
  • City of Peoria Community Assistance Division: (623) 773-7070, 9875 N. 85th Ave. The 211 listing gives hours of Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Make the request easy to assess

  • Describe the problem plainly: where the stain or drip is, when it started, and whether it follows rain.
  • Take dated photos of ceiling stains, and of any roof damage you can see from the ground.
  • Protect the room. Move belongings, set out a bucket, and keep electrical items dry.
  • Keep any earlier inspection reports or estimates. They show the history.

Repair or replace?

An emergency program is built to stop an urgent problem. That may not be the same as replacing an aging roof. If your roof needs more than a repair, our Arizona roof replacement cost guide explains what drives the price. Our post on Peoria’s permit search shows how to look up past roof work on your address.

If you do not qualify, or want an independent opinion first, Apex Roofing Systems offers a free roof inspection for Peoria homes. We will tell you if a repair is the reasonable answer. Call (480) 808-ROOF (7663).
