It says town building inspectors “will no longer be climbing on any roofs for inspections” on single-family homes, duplexes, condominiums, townhouses, and residential additions. The stated reason is the risk of injury to inspectors.

What replaces the rooftop visit

Under the policy, the contractor or installer signs a form agreeing to “validate and assume liability for the roof installation including all roof penetrations and accessories.” The signer also confirms the work follows the town’s adopted codes and the manufacturer’s specifications. The form is scanned into the permit file.

In practice, that means the person who installed your roof is the one vouching for the parts nobody from the town will see up close. That is not a reason for worry. It is a reason to ask for clear records.

How a re-roof permit works in Prescott Valley

The town’s re-roof application lays out the steps. The application is uploaded through GoPost. The permitting team contacts the applicant when the permit is approved and ready for payment. The permit and a display card arrive digitally, and the card is posted where it can be seen on the job site. Inspections are scheduled through the town’s IVR line after the work is done. The form also asks whether the roof material type is changing, and for a mobile or manufactured home changing roof type, it asks for engineering approval.

What to ask your roofer for

The permit number, and a copy of the signed Policy B-20 form for your records.

Photos of the underlayment before the roof covering goes on.

Photos of flashing at walls, chimneys, skylights, and valleys.

Photos of every pipe, vent, and other roof penetration after it is sealed.

The name of the roofing product and a copy of the manufacturer’s installation instructions or warranty terms.

Confirmation that the permit was closed as “final” in the town’s system.

Keep these in one folder. They are the closest thing you will have to an inspector’s view of your roof, and they help if a question comes up years later or when you sell.

Timing note

The Permit Center says it is temporarily closed on Fridays from 1 to 5 p.m. from October 2 through December 18, 2026.
