Know someone whose service deserves to be recognized? Scottsdale Salutes offers a local way to share their story.
The City of Scottsdale announced on August 26, 2026 that nominations are open for Scottsdale Salutes. The deadline is Friday, September 25, 2026. The program recognizes veterans, active-duty service members, and members of the National Guard and reserves who have a connection to Scottsdale.
Selected honorees will be featured on banners in Old Town for two weeks in November and recognized at a reception during the city’s Veterans Day events. It is a chance to put a name and a story alongside the gratitude many people feel but do not always express.
Who can be nominated?
According to the city’s program page and nomination form, eligible connections include living in Scottsdale now, having lived here or being from Scottsdale, or having worked in the city for at least five years. Review the official form for the information needed and any current instructions before submitting.
Think beyond the people who speak often about their military experience. A neighbor, relative, coworker or longtime community volunteer may have a story you have never asked about. A personal conversation is a better beginning than making assumptions about what someone would want shared publicly.
Make the recognition personal
Ask whether the person is comfortable being nominated. Invite them to describe the parts of their service and their connection to Scottsdale they would like others to know. Check names and details with them, and use only photographs and information they are comfortable sharing.
If a family member is helping with the nomination, offer to gather the details or sit with them while they complete the city’s form. Small practical help can make the difference between an intention and a finished nomination. Submit through the official city page so the information reaches the program directly.
Carry the respect into everyday life
A banner is a visible thank-you. Being a dependable neighbor gives that appreciation another form. Ask before offering help with an errand, a household task or organizing home-maintenance paperwork. Let the person decide what would actually be useful.
When the task involves a roof, electrical work, heavy branches or other hazards, help arrange qualified assistance. Nobody should feel obligated to take a risk to prove they can manage a home. Sharing reliable contacts or helping someone keep track of questions for a contractor can be valuable support.
